Free family fun this April.
Welcome back to our monthly roundup of the best free things to do with children in the capital (and beyond). I’m Emmy and for the last five years I’ve been hunting down the best events and hangouts for Londoners with young kids and writing about them on my blog, bablands.com. I’ve learnt a lot about kids’ activities since I started blogging, but one of my most surprising discoveries is that the best stuff is often free. With that in mind, I’ll be partnering with MoneyMagpie each month to bring you the best free days out for families in London and beyond.
The Easter holidays have finally arrived, bringing with them absurd amounts of chocolate and a host of egg-ceptional seasonal activities. And while we’re hopping mad about all those sweet treats and Easter trails, there’s a huge variety of free fun to be had across the country, festive and otherwise. In London, you can release your inner design rebel at the William Morris Gallery, while in Bristol, visitors to the city’s Shopping Quarter can go in search of 31 beautifully decorated sheep. But if your passion for all things Eastery is no yolk, head down to Cardiff’s Morgan Quarter for a chance to find eggs, meet the Easter Bunny and have a generally cracking time!
Get down to William Morris Gallery on the 8th and celebrate the opening of the Ashish: Fall in Love and Be More Tender exhibition. Be inspired by Ashish’s powerful slogans and rainbow colours and unleash your inner design rebel to create your own T-shirt design.
The brilliant Assemble Play are back from the 14th-16th. Children of all ages and abilities are invited to explore the vast collection of giant blocks, boxes, colourful fabric and other treasures and make exciting play landscapes together, free from adult intervention.
RIBA’s Circular Eco-and-ME event runs on the 29th. Inspired by RIBA’s Long Life, Low Energy: Design for a circular economy exhibition, the event invites families to get crafty, build big and find out more about how architects are designing to decelerate the climate crisis.
Find The Sensational Sheep Trail across Bristol’s Shopping Quarter from the 1st-15th. Track down 31 fantastically decorated sheep, jot down their names and claim a prize.
There’s loads of free fun to be had at Cardiff’s Morgan Quarter this Easter (1st-16th), including an Easter egg trail, arts and crafts workshops, and a meet and greet with the Easter Bunny.
Nottingham Contemporary’s I Spy, You Spy, We All Spy! event runs from the 4th-6th and 11th-13th. Explore a variety of images and materials to create your artwork. Making one and leave one for others to rework and continue.
Head to Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall on the 29th for their Student Takeover Family Day. Activities will be themed around the centenary of Scotland’s first ever radio broadcast.
