Enjoy a free 7-day trial with Disney Plus, so everyone has something to do when staying at home!

Disney Plus has just launched in the UK, and offers a huge library of films and series to enjoy. It has all the classic animated films, perhaps for family nights in. Or, watch on up to four screens at once, for when everyone wants to get away from each other and do their own thing in their bedrooms! The best bit is you can try it for free with their 7-day trial, too.

The catalogue includes all the classics you’d imagine, from Cinderella, to Aladdin, to The Hunchback of Notre Dame. But there are plenty of surprises, too. Here are a few highlights:

Disney Plus Catalogue Highlights

  • All 30 series of The Simpsons
  • The Star Wars saga
  • The Mandalorian
  • Pixar movies
  • Marvel movies
  • Frozen II coming to the UK in July

That’s plenty to sink your teeth into, and Disney will be adding plenty more as time goes on.

For adults, you can revel in childhood nostalgia, too – all the old Disney films of your childhood are on there, along with the latest live action ‘reimaginings’ of favourites like the Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Dumbo, and Lady and the Tramp.

Free trial and full price details

best streaming services

You can sign up for a free 7-day trial here. That’s plenty of time for you and the rest of the family to check out the catalogue and see if it’s compelling enough to keep. If you do decide to become a paid subscriber, here’s how much it will cost:

  • £5.99 if paying per month
  • £59.99 for a year (saving £11.89 per year)

So that’s it: No tiered pricing and no difference in video quality for different users. Netflix and Disney have both committed to lowering streaming quality across their platforms due to increased demand during the coronavirus pandemic, to allow everyone to keep watching with the increased demand. You’re unlikely to notice this lower quality, however – you’ll just spend less time buffering than usual!

Having a good look through the content library and playing around with it for a week during the free trial is definitely a good idea. After that, ask your family members or housemates if you’re likely to keep watching it. If so, consider trying it for a month, and if you really love it, you may as well go ahead and pay for the full year upfront to save money in the long run.

What can I watch Disney Plus on?

disney plus free trial

As you’d expect, Disney has been hard at work making sure you can watch its streaming service on pretty much everything. The following support the Disney Plus app:

  • Most modern smart TVs
  • Your computer/laptop browser
  • Chromecast
  • Roku
  • iOS app (iPhone and iPad)
  • Android app for most smartphones
  • PlayStation 4
  • Xbox One

The Nintendo Switch unfortunately still doesn’t have any streaming support at all (apart from YouTube).

What else is good to know about Disney Plus?

streaming free trial

Like Netflix, once you’ve paid and have access to the service, you won’t have to sit through any ads. So, you can just browse the catalogue and watch to your heart’s content uninterrupted.

As mentioned, you can stream on up to four different screens/devices at the same time, but it’s possible to add seven different profiles. This means each family member can have their own profile, with a favourites list and content they prefer to see. You can set up a child lock, too – though let’s face it, Disney is pretty child-friendly except for very young kids!

iOS, Android, and Amazon Fire devices allow downloading. This means you can load up your device with your favourite shows and movies and then watch offline later.

If you’re a paid subscriber, you can cancel any time, and continue to watch until your renewal date. Remember, you save two months’ worth on your subscription by signing up for a year (£59.99 instead of £5.99 a month), and you can start off with a free trial for 7 days – definitely a money-saving tip in our time of being stuck at home!

Definitely worth getting the free week, but not sure I’ll subscribe after that.
